RAPID Neurofascial Reset in Airdrie Explained: Is This Pain Treatment Right for You?

Hi, I’m Hannah. I’m a registered massage therapist and a certified athletic therapist here at Revival.

So, I’m here to talk about RAPID, also known as Rapid Neurofascial Reset. It is a soft tissue technique that works with the nervous system to help decrease pain, increase range of motion, as well as help the body function overall and help you move a bit better.

What Is Rapid Neurofascial Reset (RAPID)?

All right. So, Rapid Neurofascial Reset is different from traditional massage in the sense that we’ll be working directly with the nervous system. Instead of traditional massage, where we’re getting in through those muscles, for RAPID we’re working more with the muscles, bones, and ligaments, which can be a bit more sensitive. That’s why, if you’ve heard about RAPID, it is more of an uncomfortable technique.

However, that pain you do feel during the treatment helps so much more afterwards in terms of getting better and getting to where you need to be with your injury or condition.

Some pains or injuries that RAPID can help with are definitely chronic or stubborn cases. So if you’ve been to traditional massage or chiro or physio and you’re just not getting much progress, RAPID can be a good alternative for you, as it works through the nervous system and helps you progress a little bit further.

When you are getting a RAPID treatment, we work through the nervous system, and the technique will elicit something called Substance P, which is a neuropeptide. It continues releasing for four days after your treatment. Basically, what it does is help decrease pain and increase range of motion, as it helps decrease those compensation patterns through the body by resetting the nervous system.

How RAPID Works With the Nervous System

I want you to look back, look down, and then look towards the RAPID eye. Revival is different in the way that we do other modalities and assessment in the treatment. You can expect a thorough assessment before you start to find out where these compensation patterns are coming from or the root cause of what might be causing your pain. Then we incorporate other modalities, such as cupping and some different soft tissue techniques as well.

With your first RAPID treatment, chances are you might be a little bit sore and experience some pain during the treatment because we’re working less through the musculature and more through the ligaments, bones, and connective tissue. It is a bit more on the sensitive side. Some clients describe it as uncomfortable or painful. However, you feel so much better afterwards, so it’s worth the pain.

After your RAPID treatment, you want to avoid any anti-inflammatories. You also want to avoid ice. Heat and movement are going to be your best friends to help flush out some of that inflammation and pain that we’re creating, flushing out the old chronic inflammation that you’ve had in the body before.

What to Expect During and After a RAPID Treatment

A typical treatment plan for a RAPID appointment is that some people notice results after the first appointment. Sometimes it takes between four to six appointments on average. If you have any underlying conditions or autoimmune conditions, it can take anywhere between eight to ten treatments. On average, four to six is the timeframe when most people start to feel a huge difference in how they move.

RAPID is suited for everyone. Whether you have acute or chronic conditions, RAPID is going to be a really good treatment for you. Some cases I’ve found really good success with are shoulder injuries, including frozen shoulder, bursitis, tendinosis, and tendinitis. Through the knee as well, things like sprains, bursitis, and patellofemoral pain syndrome have been really good cases to come in, and we’ve had great success treating them through RAPID.

Who RAPID Is Best For and Conditions It Treats

You can prepare for a RAPID appointment by wearing nice, stretchy, and comfortable clothes. It’s different from a traditional massage, where there won’t be any sheets. You’ll be fully dressed, and we’ll be working through the clothes as we move through the body.

RAPID at Revival is different in the way that we do other modalities and assessment in the treatment. You can expect a thorough assessment before you start to find out where these compensation patterns are coming from or the root cause of what might be causing your pain. Then we incorporate other modalities, such as cupping and some different soft tissue techniques as well.
